Greylock Partners Closes $500 Million Greylock XII Fund
Greylock Partners today announced that it has closed its twelfth fund, Greylock XII Limited Partnership, at $500 million. All existing Greylock limited partners, including several of the nation's most prestigious university endowments, major American industrial families and not for profit foundations, are returning investors in the over-subscribed fund. This maintains Greylock's distinction of having all original investors participate in all subsequent limited partnership funds across the firm's history. Greylock XII will continue Greylock's focus on working with the best entrepreneurs in the most promising growth markets to create, build and grow market leading and innovative companies across all areas of information technology, including consumer/Internet, EDA/semiconductor, software, systems and services.
The Greylock XII announcement also commemorates Greylock's 40th anniversary as a preeminent venture capital firm. Greylock has funded and helped build several hundred market-leading companies since its founding in 1965 including Ascend Communications, Continental Cable, DoubleClick, Internet Security Systems, Legato, Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Openwave, Red Hat, Tellabs and Trilogy. Operating from offices in the Boston area and Silicon Valley, Greylock's team uniquely includes three generations of partners all of which possess deep investing and company operating experience and track records. Partners at Greylock have previously played senior operating roles at leading information technology companies including Check Point Software, CIENA, Cisco Systems, EMC, Excite@Home (AT&T), Peoplesoft (Oracle) and Rational Software (IBM). Across its history, the Greylock approach has uniquely put the entrepreneur first, with Greylock working as an 'invited guest' in a highly supportive yet consultative way to help entrepreneurs build market-leading companies. This tradition and focus continues in Greylock XII as a bedrock philosophy behind the firm's success.
