Greylock Names James Slavet as Partner
Former Yahoo Executive Deepens Greylock?s Consumer/Internet Investment Team
San Mateo, CA and Waltham, MA—April 25, 2006 Greylock Partners today announced that James Slavet, former vice president and general manager at Yahoo and a key player in several pioneering consumer/Internet startups, has joined Greylock?s team as a partner, effective immediately. Slavet will focus on identifying early-stage consumer/Internet VC investments and providing operational expertise to help guide existing Greylock portfolio firms. James has entrepreneurial DNA combined with operational experience at both small and large companies,? said David Sze, partner, who leads Greylock?s consumer/Internet investments. ?He brings insight into the sectors that are ripe for new startups, and also knowledge about the most effective ways to build successful consumer/Internet businesses in today?s environment. Prior to Yahoo!, Slavet served in key product management, marketing, business development and general management roles in several startup ventures, He was founder/COO of Guru, an online recruitment company which merged with Unicru (both Greylock-funded companies); the first employee of publicly held online consumer health company Drugstore.com; and the manager of new business ventures for the pioneering internet/media company Wired, which was acquired by Conde Nast and Lycos. Slavet also worked as a strategy consultant at Monitor Company. He holds a BA from Brown University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
