Alagu Periyannan is an Entrepreneur in Residence at Greylock Partners and Norwest Venture Partners. He focuses on information security, application networking and video. He has 15 years of research and product development experience in bringing innovative networking and multimedia products to market.
Alagu most recently held the position of Chief Technology Officer at Blue Coat Systems (Nasdaq: BCSI), a leader in Web Proxy and WAN optimization appliances used to secure and accelerate applications on the network. During his 6 year tenure at Blue Coat he held various senior R&D management positions and was part of the management team responsible for leading the company through its successful repositioning from CacheFlow, a maker of web caching appliances, to Blue Coat. He also led the team that was responsible for the companys recent entry into the WAN optimization market. Prior to CacheFlow, Alagu was an early member of the management team at Entera, an Internet content delivery startup. He built an R&D team from the ground up to deliver streaming media caching products, culminating in a successful sale of the company to CacheFlow in 2000. Before joining Entera, Alagu spent 6 years at Apple in various research and product development roles in networking and video over networks in the Advanced Technology Group (ATG) and then as a founding member of the QuickTime Streaming Group.
Alagu holds a Masters in Computer Science from North Carolina State University, Raleigh and a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani, India.
